Social Studies Grade Seven

This year I am teaching students about Africa, Asia and the Pacific countries.  My first year I taught 7th Grade Social Studies in San Antonio, Texas.   There the class was called "Texas History."

It is very exciting to teach about Africa and Asia because I have lived in Kathmandu, Nepal for two years while I taught there.  I want to visit Africa as some of our faculty have done.  On February 26th our class is sponsoring students from UNC Chapel Hill who will speak about living in Kenya.

I encourage students to reflect on what it would be like to live in the places we study.   I encourage students to explore ways that other people can help us learn lessons in problem solving  and understanding human behavior.

All students coming from this class should be reading and writing better because we keep a record of our learning in our spiral books called "Learning Log."  This year students are using the notebooks to record their classwork.   We are also reading about how every person on Earth has a story to tell.
