Welcome back to another exciting school year. We've had many changes over the summer. We are proud to welcome Mrs. Teresa Conoly as our new Assistant Principal. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our campus with her broad range of knowledge in all fields of education.
Some other exciting changes will be the amount of programs we'll have available for your child. Here is just a sampling of what we already have locked in:
- Life Skills Training from the University of Colorado will be presented to our sixth graders during their physical education classes. This program will focus on looking at gangs and drugs in our nation's schools. Mr. Pratt will provide the instruction for the students in conjunction with Ms. Collins, our sixth grade counselor.
- WRAAP (Wilmington's Residential Adolescent Achievement Place-TANF) is an after school program for all D.C. Virgo students. It'll be headed up by Mr. Dockery and our seventh grade counselor, Ms. Lori Hope, will work directly with the program director.
- UNCW-Crossroads: a substance abuse prevention and education program for middle school. This program will be focused on our eighth grade students. This will be presented by UNCW professionals and headed up by Ms. Lou Ivey, our eighth grade counselor. It'll look at tobacco use and alcohol awareness.
- We'll continue our partnership with the North Side Community Center (NSCC) and have our students go to their facility after school one day a week. This day will be determined later.
- We are looking forward to strengthening our Parent Teacher Association. Our Social Worker, Ms. Carol Robbins, will be contacting all parents with her many fun ideas and suggestions on how we can be a stronger voice for our students, parents, and teachers.
I can always be reached at 251-6150X404. Feel free to stop by. My door is always open to you.

Going GREEN: We would like to inform you that we will becoming a GREENER campus. The following areas have already been improved by our staff and county: we've been provided recycle containers for all our plastic recycling needs. Our teachers have come up with a way to save paper/trees by using one Interim Report per student instead of one report per teacher. This equates to us saving approximately 10,000 pieces of paper a year.
We're also inviting all our parents to email us and we'll send to them the necessary papers available through our technology department.
Let us know if there are other ways we can better serve you and our community.
