Welcome...

Mrs. Eckerson
According to Perkins (1991), the basic goal of education is to allow an
individual the opportunity “for the retention, understanding, and active use
of knowledge and skills”. It is therefore my belief that every teacher
should want to construct knowledge. How? By helping students relate their
own knowledge, experiences, and ideas to new situations.
With this in mind it is always important to have your child(ren) read aloud
15 to 20 minutes every day. Have them read recipes, magazines, newspapers,
books, brochures, anything. Have them follow you around the house while they
read to you or have them read to a sibling.
Reading on a daily basis helps to develop your child(ren)'s reading skills
which is an important ingredient to being successful in life. In addition,
if your student(s) is not fluent with his or her multiplication facts have
them create flashcard from index cards for daily practice. If you have any
concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
My message is always basically the same...Read! Read! Read!
Vocabulary + Vocabulary + Vocabulary develops Fluency which = Reading
Comprehension
