HOMEWORK

paper pencil

Homework will be assigned each night, Monday through Thursday.

  • READING- Students are expected to read for at least 30 minutes per night.  They will also have a weekly vocabulary quiz on Fridays that will require studying the vocabulary words at home.
  • SPELLING - Students will be given their spelling words each Friday during their Power-Up time.  It is an expectation that students study their words throughout the week at home, but no written work has to be turned in.  They will be working with their words in a word study station called "Word Play" each week during reading block, as well.
  • MATH - Students will have nightly math homework generally on a math sheet.  All math homework should be completed and returned each day.  It is a good idea to get in the habit of bringing the math book home as a resource, in case any questions may arise while doing the homework.  Tests will be given each week to assess mastery of new skills.  It's a good idea for students to study the material nightly.
  • SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES - Students will have periodic assignments or projects to complete in these subjects.  Most importantly, they will have vocabulary words that will need to be studied for understanding, application, and assessments.
  • My expectation is that homework not take more than approximately an hour per night to complete.  Please check your child's planner each night for specific assignments, and sign or initial it daily.
