Hello! I am the ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for Rachel Freeman School of Engineering. I am also the ESL teacher for Dorothy B. Johnson Pre-K Center and Mary Washington Howe Pre-K Center. Between three schools, I am on-the-go much of the time, but I LOVE teaching my students, and have taught pre-K, elementary, middle school, high school and adult ESL students for more than 20 years. All of my students have either learned a language, other than English, as their first language, or have grown up in a home where a language, other than English, is spoken some, or all of the time.
It isn't always easy to be an ESL student. Speaking and comprehending spoken English are skills frequently acquired more quickly than reading and writing in English. But, over the years, I have found that ESL (or ELL) students are some of the most determined, hardest-working, respectful, and good-natured students that are to be found anywhere! Simply put, they are a joy to teach!
Over the coming weeks, I hope to be able to add new features to this website, including helpful forms (in Spanish) that may be downloaded by parents for contacting the school regarding student absences, field trips, bus information, etc. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me should you have any questions or concerns.
