3rd Grading Period

3/15-3/19

  • Voc. squares due Tuesday-quiz on Friday(frag,flex=bend)
  • drafting and revising Mon. and Tues. Final drafts due Thursday
  • Media Center-intro. to biography on Thursday

3/8-3/12-This week we begin new Voc. (frail and fract=break).There will be a quiz on Friday.  Student slides will be incorporated into the instructional slideshow on nonfiction elements in autobiography with a reading guide due on Friday.  Pre-writing for autobiographical incidents will be checked on Thursday with completed rough drafts due on Monday.

3/1-3/5- This week's voc. is a review of (bio, vit, and viv) with spelling on Thursday and a review test on Friday. We're also reviewing and refining our understanding of nonfiction text and reading strategies appropriate to the text.  Dialectical Journals are due on Wed. with a terminology test scheduled for Friday.

 

2/22-2/26- This week marks the beginning of the second round of Reading Benchmark Assessments.  The spring assessment will cover goals and objectives not covered on previous Benchmarks.  The data gleaned from these assessments is used to guide the teaching and re-teaching of goals and objectives prior to EOG's

Vocabulary for the week focuses on Vit, Viv=Life.  There will be assignments throughout the week with a short quiz on Friday.

Mid-term progress reports will be sent home on Wed. 2/24.

 

2/15-2/19

Seventh graders will be involved in NC Writing Tasks this week.  Vocabulary for the week focuses in the "bio" root meaning "life."  There will be a short quiz on Friday.  We're continuing practicing our writing skills by looking a specific language with a focus on synonyms and precise verbs. Autobigraphy and biography are the "nonfiction" topics for the remainder of the month. 

 

 

2/8-2/12 This week's Vocabulary is a review of the previous two weeks with additional study and a quiz on Friday.  Students will also be working on Evaluative Writing Practice this week. Planning and drafting will be started during class and homework time should be used for polish and completion. Our class will meet in the 8th grade computer lab Wed., Thurs., and Friday.

2/1-2/5- This week's Vocabulary Study will center around the root mal=bad.  There will be a quiz on Friday.  One-pagers on "The Creamation of Sam McGee" are due on Monday along with study guides.  The rest of the week will focus on the components Evaluative Writing with practice planning and drafting during class and for homework. 

1/25/10-1/29/10  This grading period marks the third week in our new Vocabulary Program that focuses on root words.

This week's words focus on the root ben, bene, bon= good or well.  There will be in class and homework assignments surrounding the study of these words as well as a quiz on Friday.

The reading/writing strategy for the week is paraphrasing. We're working on paraphrasing stanzas from "The Cremation of Sam McGhee" as well as integrating the skill into the Vocabulary study.
